Yes, I did actually set fire a hard disk. It was a while ago, my friend Gus was over, and we were playing with this ancient 10MB full-height 5.25 disk drive. We took the cover off, and got the computer to run some sort of disk testing program, which made the head flip back and forth a bunch of times. Then we squirted lighter fluid on it, and set it alight. It didn't work very long afterwards. This file was originally in my home directory, but I moved it over to the CMS, as I wanted to capture discussion, and import it to my permament repository. I mentioned this in a slashdot post about hard drive mutilation, and that brought this file to light (read: I went and dug it up). I recorded this using a b/w parallel port quickcam, and later recompressed it down to the image it is now. I am not sure if the file has been mutilated, but the below mentioned thread specifies how to read it. I will post an updated version of the file when I get a chance. Bookmark/Search this post with:
